Freestanding bathtubs

Standalone baths, also known as freestanding baths are the ultimate style statement for your bathroom – they are the fireplace of the bathroom — they are the centrepiece, the focal point of the bathroom. Freestanding baths are completely disconnected from surrounding walls, surfaces and adjacent support structures.However, in the majority of cases, they must be accommodated with a 360-degree clearance, and thus require a fairly spacious bathroom.

The main challenge associated with integrating a freestanding tub is identifying exactly what to do with the exposed plumbing. One of the most common approaches in contemporary bathrooms is to purchase speciality faucets and fixtures that add to the aesthetics of the bathroom’s interiors, thereby celebrate them rather than trying to conceal them.

Drop-in baths

Sometimes referred to as under-mount or deck-mounted bathtubs, drop-in tubs sit within a built-up structure or platform. Providing plenty of design flexibility, like free-standing tubs, drop-in bathtubs can be installed in the middle of a room and do not require the three-walled enclosures that surround alcoves. As a result, depending on your design specifications, drop-in bathtubs can require more floor space than alcoves.

Built-in baths

Although not quite the design statement as free-standing baths, built-ins can be luxurious with the spacious surround, fully equipped with wine, candles, loofahs and whatever a bathing heart might desire.

-Once you decide to get a free-standing bath, allow enough space between the bath and bathroom walls for easy cleaning. If you're unsure whether there is really enough room in your bathroom for a freestanding bath, opt for a different bath design, despite how important bathroom design trends might be to you, because at the end of the day, the overall functionality of the bathroom is key.

-In the case of a drop-in bath, be mindful that it may not be suitable for shower-over-the-bath situations. This is because the edges of a drop-in bath are either rounded over or more-or-less horizontal all the way to the edges for a smooth finish. Also, keep in mind that drop-in baths are not designed for use with glass bath/shower screens.

-Most importantly, ensure you have proper waterproofing in your bathroom because inadequate waterproofing around the bathtubs can lead to structural water penetration causing a hefty hole in your pockets.
