Toilets
A toilet is a toilet, right?
Well, not exactly. In recent years, the toilets in our homes have undergone a major style makeover. Ergonomics, style, aesthetic, and lifestyle has had a tremendous impact on the humble toilet that used to occupy our bathrooms, most times separated from the main elements.
Today, we give the toilet a centre seat in the bathroom. It’s an important fixture that can add to the style and aesthetic of your bathroom, provided you choose right. Our imaginations have taken us afar, and we have transformed toilets into the masterpiece they are today.
At WHO Bathroom Warehouse, we have a range of toilet makes and models online and in our store. From the traditional wall-faced toilets to concealed-cistern toilets, we have options that will enhance home value and your lifestyle.
What do you need to consider before buying a toilet?
Before buying a toilet, there are a few things to consider before you decide on the type of toilet you want to invest in.
Before buying a toilet, there are a few things to consider before you decide on the type of toilet you want to invest in.
Firstly, you must reflect on how much space you are willing to separate for the toilet in your bathroom, as this is the biggest predictor on what you can choose.
Next, check the available plumbing in your bathroom and choose a toilet that suits the existing plumbing. It will be a rather costly ordeal to change your plumbing. However, if you want to change the plumbing to suit your toilet, it’s best to speak to your plumber before you buy a toilet for your bathroom.
Thirdly, focus on the pan type of the toilet. There are three common pan types - S-trap, P-trap, and Skew trap. The trap is the bend in the toilet pipe that expels the waste. The S-trap has a waste pipe that connects to the floor, the P-trap has a pipe that connects to the wall, and Skew trap has a pipe that extends from either side of the toilet bowl, which is sometimes found in older homes.
According to the WELS scheme introduced by the Australian government to help reduce water consumption in homes, a 4-star rating is what’s needed for your toilet. All the toilets in our store correspond to this requirement.
Toilet styles
Your final step in choosing a toilet is to choose the style of toilet you want. There’re a few options to choose from. Let’s have a look at what they are all about so you can decide what you like and what suits your bathroom style.
Wall-faced toilets
This is the back-to-the-wall, traditional type of toilet, which sits flush against your bathroom wall to cover all the pipework that connects the water system to the cistern. This type of toilet is perfect for contemporary style bathrooms as they are modern, tasteful and easy to clean.
Close-coupled toilets
This is the type of toilet that’s popular among homeowners as it’s an ideal choice for mid-range bathroom renovations. The cistern sits directly above the toilet pan, making it fully integrated and easier to clean. Close-coupled toilets come in a variety of designs with different toilet seats, different shapes, and sizes that you can choose from.
Concealed-cistern toilets
In this type of toilet, the cistern is mounted in a wall cavity concealed from view, creating a discreet and stylish design. It also offers a clean and uncluttered look and is easier to clean. Plus, the pan is wall-hung or freestanding, taking up less space than wall-hung or close-coupled toilets.
Toilet seats
At WHO Bathroom Warehouse, we have a few different designs of toilet seats in our collection. When you’re choosing a replacement for your toilet seat, there are a few things you need to consider.
The shape is the most important factor when replacing a bathroom seat, so, it’s best to understand what the shape of your toilet seat is. It could be round, square or elongated. While round-shaped seats are the most common, elongated toilet seats are becoming more popular, as they have a rather long oval shape.
Next, check whether you need a conventional bolt-and-nut mount or an integral bolt-and-nut mount to fix your toilet seat to the toilet. Then focus on the type of material you want for the seat. You can choose among hard material, soft material and pick whether you want plastic, wood or cushioned seats.
Remember that plastic is the most durable, so it’s usually the better option. Plus, it’s best to purchase a toilet seat that has a soft close, so that it doesn’t make a noise when closing and is durable, preventing easy scratching.
At WHO Bathroom Warehouse, select the best option for your bathroom. Not all toilets are created equal. After all, a bathroom just isn’t complete without its own perfect porcelain throne.
